Termite Control Options
Once Upon a Termite...
There was a time when there was basically one way to do a termite job, and that was with organochlorine termiticides, of which chlordane was the most popular. But beginning in the early 1980's, individual states began banning the use of chlordane, and the U.S. EPA banned its use nationwide in 1988. The loss of chlordane led to a flurry of research to find suitable replacements, and many "replacement" termiticides came -- and went.
Thankfully, though, pesticide manufacturers stopped trying to "replace" chlordane, and instead started "thinking out of the box" for new methods to stop these voracious pests. Out of this new way of thinking came two new approaches to termite control: termite baiting, and non-repellent liquid termiticides like Termidor®. At Z-Best Pest Control, we offer both termite treatment options.
Baiting Option: Advance Termite Baiting System®
When using Advance, bait stations containing wood are inserted into the soil around the building(s) to be protected. In the course of their routine foraging, termites come across the wood and start munching away. In addition, they lay a pheromone trail to the bait station, which tells other members of the colony how to find it.
When a Z-Best technician notices termite activity in the station during a routine check, a bait cartridge is inserted into the station. The termites bring the bait back to the colony, where it is spread through the colony members in the course of their normal grooming, feeding, and communications.
Over the course of time, the entire colony is eliminated, the active ingredient baiting cartridge is removed and replaced with a non-toxic wood cartridge, and the account goes back on quarterly monitoring status.

Liquid Termite Treatment Option: Termidor®
Termidor represents a revolutionary new approach to conventionally applied, liquid termite control. Termidor is a low-dose, liquid termiticide that works in an entirely new manner.
Like older termiticides, Termidor is applied into the soil around a building as a liquid. But that's where the similarity ends. Whereas older liquid termiticides were highly repellant and formed a "chemical barrier" to termites, Termidor is non-repellant. Termites don't see it, smell it, or taste it.
What this means is that termites merrily forage through Termidor-treated areas, happily ignorant of the fact that they are being poisoned. They then transfer the product to other colony members through their feeding and grooming activities; and within days after application, Termidor has already started to kill even those termites in the colony who have not directly contacted the product.
